Lapostolle Vineyards

Apalta Vineyard – Apalta DO (Colchagua Valley)

The Apalta Vineyard is located in the wine-producing region of the Colchagua Valley, 200km south west of Santiago, 68km away from the Pacific Ocean, between the Andes mountain range and the coastal cordillera.  In 2018 the Apalta Valley was given its own DO in recognition of the amazing local conditions.

The Apalta Valley is not an enclosed valley, as it is lodged between the Tinguiririca River, a tributary of the Rapel River, and cordons of the Coastal Cordillera that ends in a "horse shoe" shape. The east and west sides of the "horse shoe" form a barrier that delays the arrival of the sun in the morning and attenuates the exposure to the sunlight in the evening. That position permits a good regulation of sunshine, allowing it to escape the excess heat that is well known in hot climates.

Thanks to the hills that surround the vineyard, the old vines located in the lowest part of the field receive underground water that provides sufficient natural water during almost the whole growing season.

The Apalta vineyard was planted with Carmenère, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Syrah between 1920 and 2006. Some of the oldest blocks, planted in 1920, have vines that were brought from France at the end of the 19th century.

Atalayas Vineyard - Casablanca Valley DO

The Casablanca Valley is located 27.5kms away from the coast and 76km west from Santiago, right in the Coastal Cordillera.

Parcels of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were first planted in 1997 in our Atalayas vineyard. It has a strong influence from the cool wind from the coast that drops temperatures in the valley. Casablanca Valley has a very low annual rainfall which is good for the slow maturity of the grapes.

The Atalayas Vineyard has today 43.3 hectares planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that produces grapes for our Grand Selection Chardonnay, Cuvée Alexandre Chardonnay and Cuvée Alexandre Pinot Noir

Las Kuras Vineyard - Cachapoal Valley DO

The Las Kuras Vineyard is located in the Cachapoal Valley, 100km south of Santiago, very close to the small town of Requinoa and also very close to the Andes Range.

The soil was formed a long time ago thanks to the action of water, actually it is an old riverbed, so there is a high percentage of rocks that provide excellent drainage, great aeration and low fertility.

This vineyard has 109.9 hectares of vines planted from 1992 to 2000 including Cabernet Sauvignon (32 hectares), Sauvignon Blanc (38 hectares) and Syrah (25 hectares).

From Las Kuras vineyard we get the grapes to produce the Grand Selection Sauvignon Blanc and the Grand Selection Cabernet Sauvignon.
